Early & Growth Orthodontics

Kids Braces in Jammu

Growth-modification and early intervention that guides young smiles before problems set in.

Duration

Phase 1 treatment, when needed, typically runs 9 to 18 months, followed by a break until full braces if a second phase is required later.

Visits

Every 6 to 8 weeks during active Phase 1 treatment.

Early orthodontic treatment, sometimes called Phase 1, addresses growth-related problems while a child's jaw is still developing, typically between ages 7 and 10. It's not about straightening baby teeth: it's about guiding jaw growth, making room for adult teeth, or intercepting a bite problem before it becomes harder to correct.

Most children we examine at the first check-up don't need any treatment yet, and we say so rather than starting something unnecessary. When intervention genuinely helps, doing it now is usually shorter and less expensive than waiting until the full adult teeth are in and a bigger correction, sometimes including extractions, becomes the only option.

Suits you if

Children aged 7 to 10 with a visible crossbite, significant crowding forming, thumb-sucking affecting jaw shape, or a jaw growth pattern that's easier to redirect early.

Probably not for you if

Children whose teeth and jaw are developing normally. A first check-up doesn't obligate you to treatment: it just tells you whether there's anything worth watching.

What's included

  • First check-up at age 7 or 8, before anything looks wrong to you
  • Most 7-year-olds we see don't need treatment yet. We'll tell you to come back in a year
  • Guiding the jaw while it's still growing can avoid extractions later
  • Phase 1 now is a shorter, cheaper treatment than full braces at 14
Dr Manjeet is highly knowledgeable and took the time to explain every step of the treatment in a clear and reassuring way. He was patient with all my questions and made sure I fully understood my options before moving forward.

Questions about early & growth orthodontics

What age should my child first see an orthodontist?

By age 7 or 8, even if nothing looks obviously wrong. Growth-related problems are easiest to catch and simplest to guide at this stage.

Will my child definitely need braces after Phase 1?

Not always. Some children finish Phase 1 and never need a second round. Others will still need full braces once the adult teeth are in, just a shorter course than if nothing had been done early.

Is early treatment just to make money on two rounds of braces?

If your child doesn't need it, we'll tell you that at the first visit rather than start treatment. Most 7-year-olds we examine are told to come back in a year, not to begin something.
