Duration

Metal braces are brackets bonded to the front of each tooth, connected by a wire that Dr. Manjeet Singh tightens at every visit. They are the oldest orthodontic appliance still in wide use, and for a reason: they can move teeth in more directions, and correct more severe crowding or rotation, than any removable system.
If your case involves overlapping teeth, a significant gap, or a bite that's off by more than a few millimetres, metal braces are usually the fastest and most predictable route to a corrected bite. They are also the least expensive braces we fit, which matters if cost is the deciding factor.

Complex crowding, rotated teeth, and bite corrections that need real mechanical force, at any age from childhood through adulthood.
Probably not for you if
Anyone whose main concern is how the braces look day to day. If discreetness matters more than price, ceramic braces treat the same range of cases without the visible metal.

Questions about metal braces
Do metal braces hurt more than other types?
No more than any braces. Expect 3 to 4 days of soreness after each adjustment as the teeth respond to the new force. The brackets themselves don't hurt to wear.
Can I still play sports with metal braces?
Yes, with a mouthguard. We can fit one specifically for braces so it doesn't cut into your cheeks the way a standard mouthguard can.
What happens if a bracket comes loose?
Call the clinic. A loose bracket doesn't undo your progress, but leaving it too long can let the wire poke or shift out of position. We'll get you in to re-bond it.
